The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) successfully concluded its on-site inspection visits to the three candidate countries vying to host the 2029 Islamic Solidarity Games: Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Iran. These visits mark a significant step in the evaluation process ahead of the final hosting decision.
The ISSA delegation, led by Secretary General Nasser Majali and accompanied by members of the ISSA Sport Commission, assessed the readiness of each of the countries, reviewing proposed competition venues, existing infrastructure and organisational plans.
“The level of interest, passion, and preparation demonstrated by Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Iran has been outstanding,” said Majali. “It reinforces the growing stature of the Islamic Solidarity Games and its increasing role in advancing sport across our member nations.”
“Each candidate presented a compelling vision for hosting the 2029 Games, showcasing their significant commitment to delivering a world-class multi-sport event. These visits are vital for us to ensure the Games are delivered to the highest possible standards for the athletes, officials, fans and volunteers, and we are very grateful for the excellent cooperation and hospitality shown by all three bidding teams.”
The inspection visits complete a key phase in the evaluation process, which began with six member countries submitting letters of interest before Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Iran proceeded with their full bid submissions. The final decision on the host of the 2029 Islamic Solidarity Games will be announced during the General Assembly, to be held on the sidelines of the 2025 Games.
This important evaluation process unfolds as the countdown continues to the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh 2025, which will bring together approximately 3,500 athletes from 57 countries to compete in 23 sports from 7-21 November 2025.
