Elite athletes in ISSA member countries lack access to high-quality, culturally-aligned platforms where they can compete at international standards. Inadequate infrastructure, limited hosting capacity and the lack of coordinated, high-level competitions continue to hold back athletes’ performance and the global visibility of ISSA member countries.

A gap in coordinated academic collaboration and research is evident across the ISSA’s 57 member countries, and Islamic values need to be greater integrated into sport, sports science and sports management.

Current planning processes for international sports events provide limited consideration for the cultural needs of all athletes, and Muslim athletes face unique challenges which can impact their ability to fulfil their potential to thrive on the global stage.

A significant number of ISSA member countries are affected by conflict, disaster and crisis, making it difficult for athletes to access safe and stable environments for sport. This undermines their ability to participate and progress, despite sport’s potential to bring hope and unity in times of instability.
